About Matriculate

Matriculate’s mission is to empower high-achieving, low-income high school students to make the leap to our best colleges. Our vision is that one day all the best students in America will have access to and be supported in the best colleges—regardless of their socio-economic status or background—which will give them a unique opportunity to change the trajectory of their own lives and the lives of their families.

Matriculate leverages peer-to-peer relationships and networks to empower high-achieving, low-income high school students to enroll in top colleges and universities. We train talented college students at leading institutions to provide the information, guidance, and support that these high school students need to apply to, gain admission to, and excel at the best schools. College is an inflection point for high-achieving, low-income students, and Matriculate allows this overlooked segment of our country’s top talent to realize its potential and address income inequality from the bottom up.

Overview

Each fall, we pause the work of our college student Advising Fellows and conduct a review of our High School Fellows’ college lists. This provides an opportunity for outside professionals to weigh in on the process. Matriculate invites a select group of partners to join in reviewing our lists to give additional perspective through impartial feedback. We know that typically less than half of high-achieving, low-income high school students put even one school on their lists that is an academic match. Together with our Advising Fellows, we know we can help our students make the leap to a top college.

As a partner of Matriculate, we value your experience in supporting students in this space and hope
that you will consider joining us as a Matriculate College Review Specialist in this important endeavor.
Our list review process will take place from September 22nd - November 1st and will be conducted
virtually.

Volunteer Review Specialists will ensure the quality of college lists for at least 20 students by:

  • Attending an in-person or virtual training to understand the Matriculate college list review process and expectations
  • Reading a short profile of each assigned student
  • Assessing the college selections of each student against the checklist of criteria provided by Matriculate staff
  • Writing and submitting an online feedback form to the student about their college list
  • Identifying feedback for Matriculate

Time Commitment

September - November:

  • Between 10-15 hours (30 minutes per student) to review and provide feedback on college lists
  • 10 minutes per week to check in with Matriculate staff (as needed)

Note: Based on the availability indicated on your interest form, Matriculate will assign the appropriate number of students each week.
